What the Learning Lab is

The Learning Lab is the free learning platform of engineering.fit( ), a nonprofit that helps African engineering students gain research experience, with a focus on AI and machine learning for engineering problems.

The course, Python to AI, has 20 modules and 60 lessons. Every lesson has a practice exercise with real Python that runs in your browser and checks your answer, and a short quiz. There are 120 quiz questions in total. Four projects in energy, engineering, finance and healthcare use synthetic datasets and come with Jupyter notebooks you can download.

Every lesson is open, and you do not need an account to learn. A free account is optional. It keeps your progress in step across devices and lets you download a progress report signed by the director.

The lessons, exercises and quizzes run in your browser, so JavaScript needs to be turned on.

Four project domains

• Energy: Forecast a solar-powered tomorrow. Compare an engineering estimate with a simple regression model on synthetic solar readings.
• Engineering: Spot trouble before a machine stops. Flag possible machine failures from synthetic vibration and temperature readings.
• Finance: Follow the money. Find the pattern. Summarize six months of synthetic workshop expenses with clear charts.
• Healthcare: Help a clinic plan its day. Study missed appointments in a synthetic dataset and learn how to evaluate a model with care.
