Recover a failing automation.

Simulate timeouts, replay decisions, retry limits, and an operations digest.

THE CHALLENGE

Can the workflow recover without repeating an uncertain external action?

A fictional connector has a mixed run history. Some writes succeeded, some failed temporarily, and one outcome is unknown. Build a local recovery planner with an operation ledger. Do not make network requests or sleep during tests.

Build it, step by step

  1. 01

Define retryable, terminal, and unknown outcomes.

  2. 02

Read the ledger before planning a replay and reconcile pending results.

  3. 03

Compute capped backoff delays and stop after three attempts.

  4. 04

Prepare a dead-letter list with an owner and reason.

  5. 05

Produce a digest and explain the storage transaction needed for concurrent workers.

WHAT GOOD WORK LOOKS LIKE

Your project checklist

  • Completed operations are reused rather than repeated.
  • Pending outcomes require reconciliation.
  • Retries have a delay, attempt limit, and replay safety check.
  • Terminal failures and exhausted work stay visible.
  • The handover does not claim exactly-once delivery from an in-memory ledger.
