# Connect a metric to a goal

AI Content Creation | Module 18: Measure and learn

## Your goal

Calculate a useful rate and name its limits.

Choose a metric that matches the action. A post inviting registration may need link clicks and completed registrations, not only reactions. Name the denominator when reporting a rate.

In a fictional example, 40 link clicks from 1,000 impressions gives a click-through rate of 4 percent. Eight registrations from those 40 clicks gives a click-to-registration rate of 20 percent.

Impressions are not necessarily unique people. Platform definitions can differ. Keep the metric definition and time window with your report, and do not claim that a click proves a person attended.

## Source pack

FICTIONAL PRACTICE BRIEF: Green Bench is a student repair club. It runs a free notebook-cover repair workshop on Saturday, 14:00 to 16:00, in Room B. There are 12 places. Learners bring one worn notebook; tools and scrap card are provided. Register using the club form. No date, form URL, access arrangements, impact figures, or testimonials have been supplied. Ask the organiser about missing details before publishing. This is a creative exercise, not a real event.

## Worked example

Calculate and interpret rates for the fictional campaign example.

### Click-through calculation

Forty clicks divided by one thousand impressions, multiplied by one hundred, gives a four percent click-through rate.

### Registration calculation

Eight registrations divided by forty clicks, multiplied by one hundred, gives a twenty percent click-to-registration rate.

### Interpretation

The registration rate describes this sample and time window. It does not show attendance or prove why people registered.

## Your work

### Click-through calculation

Write at least 8 words.

### Registration calculation

## Review your work

- [ ] I used the correct denominator for each rate.
- [ ] I labelled the data as fictional.
- [ ] I separated observation from explanation.

Completeness checks do not assess creative quality or factual accuracy. Review the actual work yourself or with a mentor.
