# Build an edit plan

AI Content Creation | Module 12: Plan and edit short videos

## Your goal

Make each cut help the viewer follow the story.

An edit plan names the shot order, duration, transitions, and text. Begin with simple cuts. Effects should support the message rather than hide a confusing sequence.

Watch once with the sound off to test the visuals and captions. Listen once without looking to test the spoken message. Add descriptions for essential visual information when needed.

You can complete this exercise as an annotated storyboard. If you make a real clip, use your own footage or assets you have permission to use, and keep the export with the script.

## Source pack

FICTIONAL PRACTICE BRIEF: Green Bench is a student repair club. It runs a free notebook-cover repair workshop on Saturday, 14:00 to 16:00, in Room B. There are 12 places. Learners bring one worn notebook; tools and scrap card are provided. Register using the club form. No date, form URL, access arrangements, impact figures, or testimonials have been supplied. Ask the organiser about missing details before publishing. This is a creative exercise, not a real event.

## Worked example

Plan the edit and two review passes for the workshop video.

### Shot order

Use the notebook close-up, then the materials view, then a still information card long enough to read comfortably.

### Text and sound

Use clear spoken words with low background sound. Add accurate captions and keep the registration action visible on the final card.

### Review passes

Watch silently to check the captions and visual sequence, then listen without looking and note any missing essential information.
